The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the construction industry will face a shortage of 1.6 million workers by 2022. So how did an industry that let go more than 2 million workers during the recession, well more than any other industry, end up in the talent struggle?
Currently, there is only one tradesman entering the workforce for every 5 that retire. With 73% of construction firms planning to expand their headcount throughout 2017, this leaves the industry in a continued shortage for qualified talent. The Associated General Contractors of America reported that construction firms added employees over the past year at nearly double the rate of the overall economy. In June alone, the industry added 16,000 jobs across the country.
In the United States nearly 15 million people are employed each year by staffing firms. While previously seen as a source of entry level jobs, the staffing industry has transformed itself into the gateway to confidential job searches, permanent careers and access to the nation’s top hiring managers.
Here’s what staffing employees recently shared with the American Staffing Association:
- 9 out of 10 staffing employees said staffing work made them more employable
- 35% were offered a permanent job by a client where they were placed, 66% of those offered accepted the offers of permanent employment
- The average staffing employee makes $17/hr while some make more than $100/hr
- 1 out of 5 staffing employees say scheduling flexibility is a key reason for choosing temporary or contract work
- 90% of staffing employees report that they are satisfied with their staffing company

There is a long running idea that Halloween is just for kids. That unless you are under the age of 13 or in college, that dressing up and getting into the spirit of the holiday isn’t for adults and definitely doesn’t have a place in the office. That is just nonsense! Halloween could be the perfect way to boost your employees’ morale and keep your office motivated.
I’m sure all of you have felt the effects of sleep deprivation at some point during your work day. But how widespread is lack of sleep in America?
