With that said, Trillium instituted a challenge to the entire Construction Division this past year. The main goal? Reduce jobsite injuries! With that said, Trillium is proud to announce that the Jacksonville, FL Branch has been awarded the 2016 Construction Safety Branch of the Year Award. The Jacksonville office went through 2016 with zero injuries!

Mandy

When Branch Manager, Amanda Lewis was asked how she accomplished this terrific feat, she replied “The employee check-ins and reference checks work. We make sure that every employee that goes on a jobsite understands that their safety is our number one concern.” She added, “Our clients must be safety conscious too, or we can’t partner with them.”

With the number of jobsite injuries and incidents on construction sites on the rise, the safety of our employees remains Trillium Construction’s top priority. With all of the branches cohesively working together, Trillium can continue to eliminate the number of incidents on jobsites each year. Congratulations to the Trillium Jacksonville office and keep up the good work!

Recruiters, Your New Best Friend /blog/recruiters-your-new-best-friend/ Wed, 20 Apr 2016 15:46:59 +0000 /blog/?p=3025 Continue reading ]]> Do you seem to be receiving calls from Recruiters at the most inopportune moments throughout your busy day? Do you ever wonder why they keep calling?

Recruiter Blog pic

Simply put, Recruiters are trying to get you a job. Their repeated phone calls are for one purpose, to fill the orders presented to them by local companies. Today, a majority of companies are starting to turn to staffing companies to source for their internal openings for the simple reason of saving time. If you are thinking about jumping back into the job market or are thinking about changing careers, a Recruiter can be one of your best resources. Check out a few key reasons to make sure you take that call:

  • They are the first line of contact with a potential future employer. If you do not make it past the first interview with the Recruiter, your chances of landing that job are slim to none.
  • Networking is extremely important. In today’s job market, it’s all about who you know. If you are not a good fit for the position you applied for, they know of other opportunities in your area.
  • The Recruiter was assigned to the job opening and is entrusted by the client to find the right fit. This in and of itself adds to your credibility when your resume is presented to the client. The Recruiter knows who you are and is aware of your skill set. You would only be contacted by the Recruiter if they felt you were a good fit for the position.
  • The best part is, working with a Recruiter is a FREE service for job seekers.

Recruiters are, in essence, Human Resources people who track down potential employees for their clients. Equipped with only a rough job description and their knowledge of the industry, they dive headfirst into resumes to find the perfect candidate for each position. Who knows, it could even be you! What are you waiting for?! Be prepared for your next great opportunity to come through a phone call!

Keep Your Pets Safe this Winter /blog/keep-your-pets-safe-this-winter/ Wed, 16 Dec 2015 13:26:17 +0000 /blog/?p=2807 Continue reading ]]> We know that most of you work 8 to 12 hour days and it’s hard to keep tabs on your pets while you are at work. After all, pets are family and they need additional care in the harsh winter months. Just like us, they are susceptible to frostbite, hypothermia and other medical conditions.  Here are a few tips to make sure your pets stay warm and safe this winter.

  • Keep them indoors, it’s the safest place for your pet while you are at work. If it’s too cold for us to be outside, then it’s too cold for them to be outside as well.
  • If your pets have to stay outside, make sure they are in a waterproof, draft free shelter with plenty of warm bedding, preferably a garage. Change the bedding often since it will become wet from them going out into the elements and coming back to their bed wet.
  • Access to fresh water is a must. Make sure that it doesn’t freeze; insulate the bowl or buy a heated dish at your local pet store.
  • Antifreeze can be fatal so keep it and other toxic items locked up and out of reach. Also, make sure to clean up any that leaks from your car especially if you keep your pet in the garage.
  • Chemicals from ice melting agents can be licked off the road and their paws, which can also be fatal to your pets. When you get home from a walk be sure to wash their paws off with warm water.

In order to keep your furry friends, warm and safe this winter, keep these helpful tips in mind. In case of emergencies, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Illness in the Workplace /blog/illness-in-the-workplace/ Wed, 18 Nov 2015 14:08:16 +0000 /blog/?p=2790 Continue reading ]]> When an illness strikes, we all know that there is a fine line between trying to stand tough and trying to protect your co-workers from suffering the same fate. What is important is when to know that one trumps the other. The following are warning signs to keep in mind when trying to determine if you should stay home or go to the office.

image001

  • If a fever is present, stay home. Infections such as the flu that cause fever, body aches and chills are very easy to spread. One co-worker comes down with flu-like symptoms and the by the next week, half of the office is infected!
  • Excessive sneezing/coughing when working closely with others. Even if you are very considerate when covering your sneeze or cough, infectious germs are still being spread throughout the air. When working in close quarters with co-workers, air borne germs are definitely the enemy!
  • Extreme fatigue/grogginess. If an illness is keeping you from sleeping properly or is causing extreme fatigue, this could be a sign of a more severe infection. Sitting at your computer or out on a jobsite all day will only make it worse, not to mention that your productivity level will plummet. By taking a day to catch up on sleep and let your body heal properly, you will make a huge difference in your overall well-being and productiveness.
  • When you bring an illness to the workplace, everyone suffers! Even if you think you can “be a trooper” and come to work when you are feeling under the weather, others around you may suffer the consequences of those actions. Having one person come to work with an illness can ultimately cause a good portion of the office to be affected, resulting in loss productivity, moral and, in the long run, profits.

Spreading illness through the workplace has, unfortunately become so commonplace that some consider it culturally acceptable. However, by paying attention to your body and the warning signs that are presented, you can help to ensure that your office doesn’t suffer from your seasonal illnesses. Even though it is said that misery loves company, let’s keep the germs at home!

Cover Letter: The True First Impression /blog/cover-letter-the-true-first-impression/ Thu, 12 Nov 2015 21:37:13 +0000 /blog/?p=2784 Continue reading ]]> Are you looking for a competitive edge in today’s job market? With the majority of application processes being online and streamlined, many candidates are forgoing cover letters. If you are looking for a simple way to help stand out against other applicants, a cover letter may be your answer.

image001

Your cover letter should make you stand out. In order to do that you need to get the reader’s attention. This is your opportunity to convince the hiring manager that you’re the right person for the job. For example, give specific examples of your own accomplishments that relate to the position you’re applying for. Cover letters also demonstrate your writing skills, so make sure everything is grammatically correct and spelled right. Do not use the same cover letter for each position you apply for. In order to tailor the cover letter to each specific position, do research about the company to prove you are truly interested in joining their team.

However, not every position you apply for requires a cover letter. If the company doesn’t ask for one, provide one anyway. This shows true initiative and that you are willing to put in more effort than your peers. The key factor to remember is that you are not the only person applying to an opening. Any opportunity that is available to push ahead of your peers, should be taken. This includes providing a professional cover and concise cover letter. Summarized tips to remember are below:

  • Give specific examples of accomplishments that may pertain to the job you are applying for.
  • Do research about the company to ensure that what is stated in your cover letter jives with the company’s ideals and mission.
  • DO NOT make the cover letter about why you want the job, but rather focus on how you can help the company.
  • Keep the cover letter short and concise. The typical hiring manager will only glance at a cover letter for a few seconds so make sure there is as much bang for your buck with as little words as possible.

Halloween in the Workplace /blog/halloween-in-the-workplace/ Thu, 29 Oct 2015 20:34:24 +0000 /blog/?p=2769 Continue reading ]]> Halloween is the one and only time of year when employers and employees alike can dress up and let loose a little more than usual in the office. However, make sure you still follow company policies and procedures especially as far as behavior and dress codes are concerned. Halloween in the workplace allows employees to have fun and gives you the opportunity to interact with your co-workers and upper management on a more casual basis; all while building friendships and teamwork, making everyone more comfortable and productive in the workplace.

However, not everyone may choose to participate in Halloween. Therefore, participation in Halloween festivities should be optional, as to not make anyone feel obligated. In addition, make sure that everyone in the office feels included and a part of the group function. If your company is throwing an office wide lunch or party, invite everyone in the workplace regardless if they dress up or not.

Nothing says Halloween like carving and decorating pumpkins. It is a tradition that has been passed through generations throughout the country. Here at Trillium we like to put an emphasis on family in the workplace, especially around the holidays. In fact, recently our Tampa, FL office invited employees and their children to decorate pumpkins for Halloween at their office.
punkin“We filled the kids up with sugar and the parents up with coffee and we all painted pumpkins. It was truly a heartwarming time,” said Jennifer Dedrich, Operations Manager in Tampa, FL.
