Increased Traffic May Not Be The Worst Of Your Holiday Run….

We all know the headaches that come with increased traffic flow around holidays, but are you aware of the increased risk of cargo theft? A recent study by FreightWatch found that US cargo theft increases as much as 28 percent during the holidays. What can you do to protect yourself?

First check with your employer to see what policies and procedures they have implemented to protect from cargo theft. Here are a few tips that may provide added protection from cargo thieves:

  • Make sure your load is attended to or  is in a secure lot.
  • Be aware of high theft geographical areas or high theft materials.
  • Utilize anti-theft equipment to secure your load.
  • Be familiar with the security and surveillance that is available at drops and stops.

Statistics provided by the FBI indicate that cargo theft could account for losses of up to $30 billion each year. Protect your load, your employer, and yourself by remaining vigilant and taking extra steps to costly losses . Learn more about statistics provided by the FBI here.
