Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Trillium Staffing is now seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for a full-time, direct-hire position in Wheeling, IL!

Schedule is 1st shift. Pay is $110,000 – $120,000/year (Salaried).

About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to provide core technical support to production, partner directly with clients on Design for Manufacturability (DFM), lead new product introductions (NPI), and drive continuous process improvements at our precision machining facility in the Wheeling, IL area.

Our operations utilize high-speed 5-axis, vertical milling, Swiss CNC, assembly, passivation, cleaning, and packaging processes. Experience within a regulated ISO 13485 medical device environment is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities
Production Support & Optimization:
-Support daily production through machine setup guidance, troubleshooting, and operator training.
-Identify, document, and execute continuous process improvements aimed at reducing cycle times, extending tool life, improving capability, and implementing automation.
-Evaluate, qualify, and launch new manufacturing equipment on the shop floor.
-Maintain and update part programs, machine layouts, and process documentation.

Customer Interface & DFM:
-Collaborate with customers to recommend design and specification modifications that optimize manufacturability, improve quality, reduce lead times, and lower costs.
-Communicate design revisions and updates clearly across internal production, quality, and engineering teams.
-Resolve root-cause production issues, partnering closely with floor teams to implement robust corrective actions.

New Product Introduction (NPI) & Quoting:
-Partner with the quoting team to analyze materials, labor, and process complexity, providing technical inputs to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
-Create component prints, tooling layouts, routings, and programs for newly awarded projects.
-Monitor early-stage production performance, evaluating data on efficiency, yield, and quality.
-Develop training materials and instruct production staff on setup, operation, and quality control protocols for new parts.

Qualifications & Requirements
-Experience: 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a precision manufacturing/machining environment.
-Machining Expertise: Strong hands-on ability to design processes, set up, and operate CNC equipment. Experience with Swiss CNC is preferred (standard CNC/milling experience also considered); 5-axis and vertical milling experience is a plus.
-Blueprint Reading & CAD: Proficient in reading and interpreting complex engineering prints. Experience generating drawings in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
-CAM Software: Hands-on experience with CAD/CAM platforms (GibbsCAM or Esprit preferred).
-Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline is preferred; equivalent hands-on machining engineering experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
-Mindset: Proven problem-solving ability with a strong drive toward continuous improvement in a team-oriented environment.
