Payroll Manager

Trillium Professional is now seeking a Payroll Manager at a CPA Firm in Battle Creek for a direct-hire opportunity!

Pay is $70+ DOE. We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee payroll services for multiple business clients of a CPA firm. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing while providing exceptional client service. The Payroll Manager will lead and support payroll staff, resolve complex payroll issues, and serve as a trusted resource for clients and internal team members.

Essential Responsibilities
-Manage payroll processing for multiple clients across various industries and pay schedules.
-Supervise, train, and support payroll staff, ensuring accuracy and timely completion of payrolls.
-Serve as a primary point of contact for clients regarding payroll questions, issues, and changes.
-Maintain strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Payroll and related payroll systems.
-Process and review payroll calculations, including wages, overtime, deductions, taxes, and adjustments.
-Ensure accurate handling of federal, state, and local payroll taxes, Social Security, Medicare, unemployment taxes, and other statutory deductions.
-Understand and properly administer wage garnishments, child support orders, tax levies, and other payroll deductions.
-Monitor payroll compliance and stay current with changes to payroll laws, regulations, and tax requirements.
-Review payroll reports for accuracy and reconcile payroll-related accounts as needed.
-Assist clients with payroll setup, employee changes, year-end processing, W-2s, 1099s, and related reporting.
-Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies and work with clients and staff to resolve issues quickly.
-Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive payroll and employee information.
-Assist with improving payroll processes, procedures, and efficiencies.

Qualifications
-5+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a CPA, accounting, or payroll services environment.
-Strong proficiency with Intuit QuickBooks/QuickBooks Payroll.
-Solid understanding of payroll taxes, Social Security, Medicare, garnishments, deductions, and payroll compliance.
-Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or leading payroll staff.
-Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a people-oriented, client-service mindset.
-Ability to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
-Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
-High level of confidentiality, professionalism, and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications
-Experience managing payroll for multiple companies or clients.
-CPA firm, public accounting, or outsourced payroll experience.
-Experience with payroll software.
-Knowledge of multi-state payroll processing.
-Familiarity with year-end payroll reporting and W-2 preparation.
