Field Service Technician
Trillium Professional is now seeking a Field Service Automation Technician in Shelby Township, MI Area (Remote / Field-Based)!

We are seeking a driven, self-motivated Field Service Technician to join their growing service division. In this role, you will act as a key technical lead, providing specialized machinery support, installations, and repairs both remotely and directly at customer sites, including automated and semi-automated assembly systems.
This position offers a target compensation range of $29.24 to $38.29 per hour, In addition to base pay, this role includes an annual performance bonus opportunity of up to 10%. The position is remote-based out of the Shelby Township, MI area, with periodic regional office check-ins required.
Field service is a core component of this role, requiring 75% to 100% travel per month on a consistent Monday through Friday schedule (with infrequent weekend travel required only for trade shows or critical customer emergencies). This position is ideally suited for empty nesters or ambitious, highly motivated technicians who thrive on the road. All travel expenses are fully covered Monday through Friday, including a monthly car allowance of up to $700+ alongside mileage reimbursement, as well as a corporate credit card for all lodging and travel needs.

Primary Responsibilities
Technical Service & Automation Support
-Provide high-level technical support for complex machinery, tooling, automated assembly cells, automatic component feed systems, and robotic/gantry-equipped equipment.
-Deliver expert technical support to customers via phone, email, and on-site field visits.
-Focus technically on Automation, PLCs, HMIs, Servos/VFDs, Sensors & Vision Systems.
-Diagnose and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic failures; support PLC, HMI, servo/VFD, sensor, and vision-system issues on automated equipment, validating solutions through testing.
-Interpret prints, electrical/pneumatic schematics, diagrams, and internal documentation to assemble, integrate, and service equipment according to technical specifications.
-Test individual components and complete assemblies—including automated sequences and safety interlocks—to ensure proper standard function.
-Collaborate closely with engineering staff and supervisors to resolve complex operating or mechanical assembly issues.
Field Operations & Customer Relations
-Travel to client sites to perform machine commissioning, system integration, preventive maintenance, and emergency service calls for automated production lines.
-Exercise independent judgment and creative technical problem-solving to resolve customer and automation issues quickly.
-Represent the company with a high level of professionalism, diplomacy, and attention to detail.
-Evaluate equipment repairs and prepare accurate labor and material cost estimates for client quotes.
-Generate detailed technical service reports, automation configurations, and maintenance updates.
-Conduct technical operational and basic automation training for end-users, distributors, and sales representatives.
Schedule & Travel Requirements
-Willingness and ability to travel 75%–100% monthly (primarily Monday–Friday travel; rare weekend travel for trade shows or critical customer emergencies).

Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
-High School diploma required; Technical Certificate or Associate Degree (Mechatronics/Automation) preferred but not required.
-2–4 years of hands-on experience in field service, machinery maintenance, or customer-facing technical support within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
-Solid troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems.
-Working familiarity with automation components (PLCs, HMIs, servo/VFD drives, sensors, safety circuits) or a strong aptitude to develop these skills.
-Proven ability to read and apply prints, schematics, and electrical/pneumatic diagrams.
-Excellent written/verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (CRM/Salesforce experience is a plus).
Preferred Qualifications
-PLC programming (Allen-Bradley/Siemens) experience.
-Hands-on experience with automated machinery, robotics, or integrated production lines.
-Exposure to PLC diagnostics, HMI configuration, or industrial networking.
-Experience training customer and distributor personnel, or formal training/certifications in hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, or controls.
