Fleet Maintenance Assistant
Trillium Staffing is now seeking a Fleet Maintenance Assistant for a direct-hire opportunity in Indianapolis, IN (Onsite)!
Pay Range: $25.00 – $35.00 / hour (Flexibility based on experience). Schedule is Tuesday – Saturday, 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM (40 hours/week. Some flexibility on hours; overtime must be pre-approved by a supervisor. Evening/on-call work may be required.).
The Fleet Maintenance Assistant supports the maintenance, safety, and upkeep of all company fleet vehicles and specialized industrial equipment. Working alongside senior mechanics and operations supervisors, this role ensures all units remain safe, reliable, and compliant with regulatory and company standards, focusing heavily on preventative maintenance and minimizing equipment downtime.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
-Maintenance Support: Assist with scheduled preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on fleet vehicles and heavy industrial equipment.
-Specialized System Repairs: Support the maintenance of specialized systems, including high-pressure water pumps, vacuum hoses, storage tanks, PTOs, and heating systems.
-Inspections: Perform routine physical inspections of fleet vehicles (checking fluids, belts, hoses, tires, lights, fittings, and safety gear).
-Digital Record Keeping: Track and maintain electronic inspection, service, and repair records using the company’s online fleet management system.
-Parts & Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with mechanics, external vendors, and suppliers for parts procurement and repair tracking.
-Regulatory Compliance: Help ensure DOT, CVIP, and internal company regulatory documents are active and properly updated.
-Shop Upkeep: Support breakdown and roadside repair coordination while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
-Safety Standards: Strictly adhere to all safety protocols, including fall protection, forklift/skid steer operating safety, and lockout/tag-out procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements
-Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
-License: Valid driver’s license required. (Class 3 or CDL with a Tanker Endorsement is preferred but not required).
-Screening: Must meet company driver safety standards and pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check, background check, and pre-employment drug screen.
-Communication Skills: Ability to read and interpret maintenance checklists, technical manuals, and blueprints, and communicate clearly via phone, text, and email.
Preferred Experience & Competencies
-Prior fleet maintenance or heavy equipment experience, ideally with exposure to vacuum/hydrovac trucks, industrial hydraulics, or complex mechanical systems.
-Experience coming from a heavy equipment repair shop, commercial fleet department, or industrial service company environment.
-Familiarity with preventative maintenance tracking programs and basic digital workflow platforms.
-Strong commitment to workplace safety, teamwork, and sharp attention to detail.
