Trillium Professional is now seeking an Advanced Payroll Specialist in Southfield, MI!

Under limited supervision, maintains and monitors payroll information processing for associates and answers any inquiries related to pay or paid time off information. Leads process and systems improvement activities to help improve Payroll and overall NA Finance and Accounting department efficiency. Trains less experienced payroll specialists and may direct their daily work. Responsible for sharing payroll knowledge and best practices.

Responsibilities:
-Audits payroll data, error reconciliation and maintenance of comprehensive payroll records and develops process improvement solutions by following established procedures and using own experience/ knowledge and judgement.
-Reconciles all payroll related tax remittances to the government and third parties and associated tax and deduction accounts. May assist with processing garnishment and child support payments.
-Reconciles the year-end payroll information and generates W2s and other mandated payroll-related forms. Files all quarterly and annual tax returns.
-Audits all entries made by other payroll associates, including entries of new employees, terminations, transfers, promotions, leave requests, etc. to ensure data is accurate. Assists with entering and confirms entries for awards, bonuses, merit increases, etc.
-Reviews and audits employee timekeeping records for compliance with established standards and maintains employee time and attendance records. Supports/assists leaders with time data. This position has a lead role in supporting the timekeeping processes and functionality in the system.
-Reports any payroll and timekeeping systems issues to the primary systems administrator. Proposes programming changes to payroll and timekeeping systems in order to achieve more accurate, efficient and consistent payroll processing. Tests new system configurations and reports back testing results. Prepares plans for ideal timing on implementing tested changes. Updates internal processes resulting from system changes. Updates training materials and conducts management training sessions as needed.
-Tracks and reports on key payroll metrics.
-May lead projects related to payroll and coordinates project support. May conduct research and prepare and present special reports for management.

-Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or human resources
-5+ years of related experience
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills to discuss or transmit primarily factual information to internal and external customers in the normal course of performing duties
-Strong analytical skills to investigate, interpret and reconcile information from several distinct sources in situations where conclusions or resolutions are discernible
-Advanced understanding of payroll practices and policies and the ability to identify when new policies or practices need to be proposed and implemented
-Advanced skillset with payroll processing software, preferably Oracle Payroll or similar system that is part of a HRIS “suite”, used to process an in-house payroll
-Experience with filing tax remittances, legally required garnishments and other regulatory payments
-Excellent customer service skills to display a service-oriented attitude in addressing and responding to customer issues
-Negotiation skills to resolve fundamental situations/issues
-Cross functional team member
-Advanced process improvement (kaizen) mindset and demonstrated ability to apply the PDCA process to achieve on work results
-Ability to train and mentor less experienced payroll associates
