Quality Assurance Manager
Trillium is seeking a Steel Fabrication QA Manager in Waterbury!
This Direct-Hire opportunity is seeking an experienced Steel Fabrication QA Manager to join a rapidly expanding, 30+ employee AISC-certified structural steel fabricator that’s experiencing explosive growth.
The Steel Fabrication QA Manager is a high-ranking, mission-critical leadership role that owns the entire quality and compliance function — including AISC certification, DOT approvals, welding program oversight, NDT program direction, and full control of submittal packages.
With the company expanding into new states and preparing for major facility growth, the right candidate will step into a position of real authority, shaping the QC infrastructure for a multi-facility, multi-state operation.
Responsibilities:
-Lead the company’s AISC Certification Program (Building, Highway Component, Bridge Component Simple) and support expansion into Bridge Intermediate and Fracture Critical Member certification.
-Maintain the QC Manual, controlled documents, audit-ready records, and all certification-related documentation.
-Oversee the welding program, including WPS/PQR/WPQR management, AWS D1.1 and D1.5 compliance, welder qualifications, and consumables control.
-Direct the NDT program (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) and supervise the CWI and NDT inspector on scheduling, acceptance criteria, and reporting.
-Manage DOT/state agency compliance across multiple states, including submittal packages, Buy America/BABA documentation, and coordination with DOT inspectors.
-Assemble complete fabrication submittal packages (shop drawings, WPSs, MTRs, welder quals, NDT reports, certifications of compliance).
-Issue and resolve NCRs, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective action plans.
-Support digital QC system development and help transition from paper-based to structured digital workflows.
-Serve as a technical resource for welders, fabricators, and shop leadership.
Schedule is Monday – Friday / 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Annual salary is $115,000 – $125,000+ Depending on what you bring to the team!

Required:
-Strong knowledge of AASHTO standards, especially AASHTO LTS-6 for highway sign structures, mast arms, and high-mast poles.
-Deep understanding of AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.5 welding codes.
-Experience with AISC audits, QC Manual ownership, and controlled document management.
-Familiarity with DOT fabrication requirements, state agency specifications, and federally funded project compliance.
-Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, weld symbols, and project specifications.
-Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred (Huge Plus):
-CWI certification (not required — a CWI is already on site).
-Experience with digital QC systems or transitioning from paper-based workflows.
-Background in multi-state DOT compliance or Buy America/BABA documentation.
-Exposure to NDT program oversight or coordination.
