CNC Machinist

Trillium Staffing is now seeking CNC Swiss Machinists and Programmers in Roanoke!

• Setup Machinist: $28 – $35/hr
• Programmer / Set-Up: $35 – $45/hr

The Swiss Turning Programmer / Set-up Machinist is responsible for setting up, programming, and troubleshooting Citizen Swiss CNC lathes for production of precision components. This hands-on role includes selecting tools, interpreting complex prints with GD&T, writing and editing programs, validating first-piece inspections, and supporting a clean handoff to operators. The ideal candidate will have experience with tight-tolerance machining, multi-channel control, and complex part configurations. 

Job Duties:
-Set up Citizen Swiss-style CNC lathes, including tooling, guide bushings, collets, and bar feeders. 
-Program parts using G-code or CAM software (e.g., GibbsCAM); edit and optimize at the machine as needed. 
-Interpret detailed blueprints and GD&T specifications; select machining strategy to ensure conformance and efficiency. 
-Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, and other precision tools. 
-Adjust offsets and troubleshoot tool wear, chip control, and surface finish issues. 
-Create and maintain setup sheets, tool lists, and other documentation to ensure repeatable processes. 
-Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production to improve setup efficiency and process stability. 
-Train operators on production runs and ensure a clean handoff with clear documentation and expectations. 
-Support root cause and corrective action efforts when non-conformances arise.

Qualifications: 
-Minimum 3–5 years of experience setting up and programming Citizen Swiss machines. 
-Proficient in reading complex part drawings and applying GD&T. 
-Strong understanding of multi-axis machining, tooling setup, speeds/feeds, and bar feeding operations. 
-Hands-on experience with part inspection and dimensional verification using calibrated instruments. 
-CAM programming experience with GibbsCAM preferred. 
-Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently or in a team environment. 
-Strong documentation skills for setup sheets and process notes.
