CNC Machinist

Seeking a highly experienced CNC Mill or Lathe Machinist with a strong background and proficiency in operating Okuma CNC mills or lathes.

Position located in the Farmington Hills, MI. area at our client location who is an established family-owned machining operation and an innovative industry leader in the manufacture of heavy-duty precision parts. This is a potential contract to hire opportunity with a pay rate of $27.00 to $29.00 an hour, 1st shift position. Hours-7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. /5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities for the CNC Mill or Lathe Machinist:
-Set up CNC mills or lathes for production, including tooling, fixtures, work holding, and machine offsets.
-Perform first-piece inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy.
-Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and machining specifications.
-Edit existing CNC programs for minor adjustments (feeds/speeds, tool changes, depth adjustments, etc.).
-Monitor machining operations and troubleshoot issues related to tooling, machine performance, or part quality.
-Maintain tight tolerances and verify part dimensions using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
-Ensure machines are operating efficiently and safely throughout each job run.
-Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines, tools, and work areas.
-Work collaboratively with supervisors, programmers, and quality personnel to resolve production challenges.

Qualifications for the CNC mill/lathe machinist:
-2+ years of hands-on experience operating and setting up OKUMA CNC mills or lathes.
-Ability to read and interpret blueprints & technical drawings.
-Basic CNC program editing skills (G-code familiarity required; full programming not required).
-Strong understanding of tooling, speeds/feeds, machining processes, and materials (steel, stainless, alloy).
-Must be able to pass pre-employment screening
