Trillium Professional is now seeking a Process Safety Engineer for work in Austin, TX!

We’re seeking a skilled Process Safety Engineer to ensure the safe design and operation of systems dealing with flammable, toxic, and combustible materials. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in evaluating engineering projects for safety compliance, identifying risks early, and implementing mitigation strategies across manufacturing environments. You’ll work closely with engineering, operations, and safety teams to embed process safety into every stage of design and execution.

Key Responsibilities:
-Assess process designs involving hazardous substances to ensure they meet regulatory codes and internal safety standards.
-Clearly communicate identified risks to key stakeholders and leadership, offering timely, practical mitigation approaches.
-Partner with design teams in early project stages to pinpoint safety concerns and operational risks before implementation.
-Drive alignment between internal and external engineering groups by emphasizing safety as a core design principle.
-Design and apply hazard control measures that comply with the company’s risk management framework.
-Organize and lead formal hazard evaluations such as HAZOPs, LOPAs, PHAs, and Dust Hazard Analyses, facilitating collaboration between technical teams.
-Conduct scenario-based modeling (e.g., PHAST, iPRSM) to provide data-driven insights into risk reduction strategies.
-Lead facility siting efforts, including dispersion and explosion simulations, to support effective and safe system design.
-Oversee the integration of risk-reduction measures into engineering plans, ensuring follow-up and execution.

Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or other high-hazard industries.
-Background working with cross-functional teams—including operations, environmental, and safety groups—to apply Process Safety Management principles.
-Strong grasp of engineering fundamentals and the ability to coordinate technical safety efforts across multiple stakeholders.
-Prior experience in facility design for industries like chemical processing, battery manufacturing, oil & gas, or semiconductors.
-Excellent communicator—both written and verbal—with the ability to distill complex safety issues into actionable guidance.
-Preferred experience with hazard assessments such as PHA, HAZOP, DHA, and What-If analyses, along with experience in dispersion or explosion modeling.
-Bonus points for expertise in flammability, reactive hazards, dust hazards, or consequence analysis.
