Lab Manager
Trillium Professional is now seeking a Lab Manager for an onsite position, possible long-term!
Seeking a Laboratory Manager to lead and support the department laboratories. The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the procurement, upkeep, and maintenance of laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, experimental equipment related to Soil Mechanics, Structural Mechanics and Materials, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, and an interactive maker space. The position includes serving as liaison with vendors related to laboratory equipment and supplies, placing laboratory supply orders, supervising technical repairs, and maintenance of equipment. This position serves as primary point of contact for laboratory users, including faculty, staff, and graduate, and undergraduate students, and provides thorough problem resolution for laboratory issues. The Laboratory Manager trains faculty, staff, and students on use of laboratory equipment, and creates and executes laboratory policies. This position assures regulatory compliance of laboratories with university policies and relevant agencies. This position is based in the laboratories on the Boston campus and addresses all department laboratories across campuses in the Boston area, including assisting in experimental testing in the field.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
1) Materials Procurement and Equipment Maintenance:
• Supervise maintenance of laboratories, including planning, ordering equipment and supplies.
• Place and receive orders and maintain purchase records, including corporate credit reconciliation.
• Review and evaluate contracts with suppliers and liaison with sales representatives to ensure best pricing.
• Oversee equipment maintenance, arrange for necessary repairs, and work with Department Chair and staff on more extensive repairs and/or space issues.
2) Problem Resolution:
• Provide problem resolution to faculty, staff, and students related to the operation of the laboratories.
• Serve as liaison between vendors, internal departments, faculty, and laboratory staff, ensuring problems are resolved in a timely manner.
•Take ownership of issues and bring them to resolution.
3) Train Students:
• Train students on proper use of instruments, equipment, and procedures.
• Provide oversight on proper usage and compliance.
• Coordinate safety training of all faculty, staff, and students on teaching and research methods, reduction of waste, and minimizing potential for accidents.
4) Regulatory Compliance
• Assure that shipments meet DOT and other regulations and supervise hazardous waste handling and removal.
• Respond to accidents and spills.
• Prepare, revise and review laboratory protocols to ensure compliance with university policies and policies of relevant agencies.

-Familiarity with equipment used in laboratories is required.
-Familiarity with equipment used in civil and environmental laboratories is encouraged.
-Basic familiarity with CAD software and 3D printing.
-Excellent communication skills and strong skills in training and assisting students.
-Knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of a
-Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in civil or environmental engineering or a related field with three plus years of experience from industry, research, or teaching laboratory operations.
