Job Description

Trillium Staffing is recruiting for a long-term contract Safety Advisor for our client in the Construction and Industrial Automation industry.

This position will work mainly Monday - Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm. However, some overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required.  Pay will be based upon experience.

The Safety Advisor is responsible for providing technical safety and health support to employees and subcontractors of the company and will work to eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment, and machine operations that may lead to human injury and/or property damage. This role will assist with the environmental, health and safety functions, including engineering solutions for ergonomic improvements, Behavior Based Safety solution development, machine guarding, sustaining safety events and various projects depending on demand.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

• Comprehend and ensure safety compliance with current federal and state OSHA and industry standards and regulations and Company policies.
• Identify project stakeholders, manages communications, and ensures engagement.
• Identify, analyze and manage project risk.
• Oversees process governance and process change management.
• Review plans and specifications, including process and operating procedures, for construction of new or existing machinery or equipment to determine whether safety requirements have been met.
• Proactively conduct and document risk assessments (PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, SFMEA, etc.) of the client project site, machine cell(s), and operation process(es) to identify and evaluate known and/or potential exposures and consequences of industrial automated equipment and processes and define appropriate control measures to eliminate or minimize severity of hazard(s).
• Interview client personnel, and audit practices/records of client projects, to ensure compliance with all safety and health regulations and policies, escalating safety non-conformances and supporting the resolution.
• Specify, implement, validate and document safety-related control systems for machinery to establish conformance with regulations and standards, throughout the design, operation and shutdown stages.
• Partner with engineers and project teams to drive process safety improvements, implement controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards. and oversee installation of safety devices on machinery.
• Assist with investigation of industrial accidents and injuries, to determine causes and preventive measures and report or review findings from investigations, inspections, or testing.

Minimum Qualifications - Education & Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in a safety science, engineering or industrial hygiene discipline.
2. Five (5) or more years of experience in a safety role.
3. Working knowledge of Industrial Automated Equipment and related Safety Devices, as well as an understanding of Machine Safety Life Cycle.
4. Working knowledge of risk management concepts, incident prevention principles, regulatory process safety or related environmental requirements, and safety, environmental and loss
prevention control principles.
5. Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel.
6. Ability to pass pre-employment screenings

Preferred Qualifications - Education & Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in a safety science, engineering or industrial hygiene discipline.
2. Seven (7) or more years of experience in a safety role within the Construction Industry performing risk assessments.
3. Experience with machine and process risk assessment and reduction.
4. Working knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Programs (RMP) regulations.
5. Understand advanced concepts, such as Control reliability and functional safety, Alternatives to Lock-out/Tag-out (LOTO - Hazardous Energy Controls), Industrial robots, Risk assessment and risk reduction strategies.
6. Ability to read and understand Process and Instrument Diagrams.
7. Safety Certification (ASP, CSP, and/or CHST), a plus.
8. Proficient in MS Excel and Adobe.
