Job Description

Field Engineer position available in the Cary, NC area for our client who is a safety equipment supplier.  Expected pay range $55,000-$80,000/year. High travel position. Direct hire opportunity.

As a Field Engineer you will conduct on-site Field Evaluations on electrical equipment for compliance to applicable agency product and safety standards (IEC, UL, CSA, EN, ANSI, ISO, etc.) You will perform construction reviews and risk assessments to minimize user and product hazards.

The majority of travel is within the southeastern US however inspections in Canada, Europe and Asia are common. High rate of travel required between 80-100% between domestic and international destinations (must possess or be able to obtain a passport).

-Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test).
-Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
-Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
-Under scope of the project, identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing.
-Follow established test plan.
-Set up and operate EUT; perform and document simple repairs on EUT as needed.
-Conduct thorough construction review; document results.
-Perform testing of products in accordance with standards.
-Core tests include, but are not limited to: rating, leakage current, dielectric, temperature, pressure, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal and fault insurance, rain, radiation, sound, and laser.
-Complete preliminary design reviews (PDR) both on and off site.
-Develop and set up test plans.
-Setup and operate standard test equipment including, but not limited to: spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multi-meter, dielectric strength tester, ground continuity tester, digital multi-meter, surge generator, over-voltage tester, environmental condition chamber, and articulated probes.
-Use hand tools to build/calibrate test fixtures.
-Field Inspector for a OSHA NRTL
-Electrical Inspector for state or local government
-Regulatory Compliance Engineer with a OSHA NRTL
-Design or Regulatory Compliance Engineer

-Bachelor’s Degree preferred and/or equivalent experience.
-Experience in the product safety field, but will consider strong electrical
background in a similar industry.
-Transferable previous experience
-Must be computer literate with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
-Will be responsible for managing personal travel arrangements and completion of necessary reports and documents.
-Must be able to work in elevated and/or confined spaces.
-Must be able to lift 30+ pounds.
-Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills as the candidate will interact with a number of different customers on many different levels. -Multi-lingual speaking skills are a huge plus!
-Strong electrical background and understanding of electrical systems.
-Must possess sound problem solving skills.
-Skillful ability to work independently.
-Demonstrated ability working with diverse populations and communities.
-Ability to pass pre-employment screenings
