ESW Staffing was founded in 1983 and has developed a diverse business portfolio, allowing the organization to become a regional leading provider of hospitality staffing and event staffing services to the Phoenix and Tucson markets. As the area’s longest standing hospitality staffing firm, the former ESW Staffing specializes in staffing large complex events requiring hundreds of credentialed and skilled staff as well as staffing smaller events requiring short term help for private banquets.

Tis’ the Season for Seasonal Work! /blog/tis-the-season-for-seasonal-work/ /blog/tis-the-season-for-seasonal-work/#respond Wed, 26 Sep 2018 15:11:05 +0000 /blog/?p=5475 Continue reading ]]> As we have officially entered the Fall season that can only mean one thing, the holidays are just around the corner. With the holiday season comes a whole new opportunity for those of you looking to make a little extra cash! Retailers, wholesalers, distributors, etc. are all looking to increase their workforce during this time of year to help with the influx of demand. But, is a seasonal position right for you?

Male WarehouseSmall

Before jumping on the seasonal work bandwagon, there are some key points to consider when determining if this is the right move for you or not.

PRO: The additional work can help to build your resume and fill in any seasonal gaps due to other positions you may work throughout the year.

CON: The pay is traditionally lower than the full-time, year round work and the hours tend to be longer, working evenings and weekends as needed.

PRO: A seasonal position could be an excellent way to get your foot in the door at a particular company or industry if you are just starting your career.

CON: Due to the short-term nature of many seasonal positions this time of year, companies tend to not invest a lot of time and effort into training for these roles.

The bottom line for anyone seeking employment this time of year is to decide what is most important to you in regards to your future position. If you are simply trying to build your resume and bring in some extra cash, seasonal work could be a great option!

The Trillium brand of companies is privately owned by René Poch and provides more than 30 years of industry leading recruitment and staffing services through its divisions including: Trillium Staffing, Trillium Construction Services, Trillium Driver Solutions, Trillium Marine, Trillium Technical, Trillium Environmental, and Trillium Techs. First Summer Job? It’s More Beneficial Than You Think! /blog/first-summer-job-its-more-beneficial-than-you-think/ /blog/first-summer-job-its-more-beneficial-than-you-think/#respond Wed, 11 Jul 2018 13:10:02 +0000 /blog/?p=5238 Continue reading ]]> For many of us, having a job during the summer while in high school or college seemed like a necessary evil at the time, but in fact, these short-term positions helped to introduce many of us to our first taste of employment and independence. With that came unexpected benefits, not to mention the obvious monetary bonus!

Summer Job Small

I know it may be hard to believe that your summer job working at the local pool as a lifeguard or picking up part-time hours at the downtown ice cream parlor could have had a lasting impact on your your overall wellness and professional success. But in fact, that may be just the case. Here are a few benefits summer or part-time work can have as you start your career path.

  1. Increased confidence and independence: Having the ability to earn your own money, no matter how much or how little can have a huge impact on a person’s confidence. It is during these first part-time or short term positions that we learn to trust our own abilities and grow confident in our still developing skill set. Customer service, patience and even interpersonal skills are all concepts that you may grow more confident in after your first opportunity for employment.
  2. Time management: While balancing going to school and participating in extra-curricular activities during the school year can certainly help you to develop time management, these skills can lose their potency if you find yourself sitting around the house all summer. The best way to get prepared for college and adult life in general is to continue to practice prioritizing your days. The older we get, the more full our schedules seem to be. With that in mind, the time management skills we learn early on can help us be better prepared to juggle work, home life and even hobbies.
  3. Stand out among your peers: After high school and even college, it is important that you have already started growing your work experience. While a summer gig at a fast food restaurant or mowing lawns may not necessarily prepare you for a future career in an office setting, you don’t want to walk in to any interview with a blank resume. Being fresh out of school and having work history already under your belt will set you apart from your peers as future employers will see this as a sign of your willingness to work and dedication.
  4. Learn more about yourself: While many of us may think we know what we want to do for a career going into a summer job (means to an end), those experiences may actually help you get to know what you like and dislike regarding work related activities. For instance, working at that local ice cream parlor may make you realize that you truly enjoy working face to face with the public but it also may make you realize that the food industry isn’t for you. Anything you can gain from previous employment to help you make a better career choice down the road, can be more than beneficial.
  5. Broaden your social and professional circle: It’s all about networking, networking, networking! Throughout high school and even college, you will consistently hear your peers and colleagues discuss the importance of networking. Networking allows you to meet new people that you may not have had interactions with previously which can open up the door for new opportunities for growth professionally and personally. You never know, you may meet a good friend or potential future employer while working that summer position.

The bottom line here is that although that summer gig is great to bring in some extra cash, it can also help to prepare you for college, future employment and simply growing as an adult. Keep in mind that just because these jobs are not the most glamorous or may not pay higher than minimum wage, it is the important skills that we learn in these positions that can help us on our way to the career we want and are striving for.

2018 Talent Shortages: What To Expect and What To Do! /blog/2018-talent-shortages-what-to-expect-and-what-to-do/ /blog/2018-talent-shortages-what-to-expect-and-what-to-do/#respond Tue, 10 Apr 2018 18:55:10 +0000 /blog/?p=4761 Continue reading ]]> As unemployment continues to drop and more in the baby boomer generation are retiring, companies nationwide in a wide variety of industries are beginning to feel the sting of talent shortages. With this in mind, who might get hit the hardest this year and what can be done about it?

Interview Large

According to Fast Company Article, the following industries/sectors are at the highest risk for experiencing talent shortages between now and 2025.

  • Skilled trades, including Electricians, Machinists and Welders
  • Healthcare, including Occupational and Physical Therapy Aides
  • Manufacturing, including Production Workers and Engineers
  • Sales, including professionals with a solid combination of social and cognitive skills
  • Math-related fields, including Actuaries and Statisticians

So, we know what is coming but what can we do to prepare for it? Here are a few steps your organization can take to try and overcome talent shortages either currently or in the future.

  • Forecast any long-term hiring needs. A talent shortage results in less available workers which equals a greater time to fill and find qualified applicants. The key is to be prepared! Instead of waiting until you have the need, forecast what your need may be based on historical data and start sourcing the talent now!
  • Recruit passive talent. The idea behind a talent shortage is that the majority of potential hires are already working elsewhere, but that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t be persuaded to jump ship. In order to convince a passive candidate to leave a current position for a new one, we must do a better job of selling our jobs. Recruiters now must also be sales people for each of their positions in order to get talent in the door. Whether this means emphasizing company culture, pay, hours, benefits, etc., we must give potential employees a reason to want to leave a current position.
    • Take advantage of referrals. When recruiting passive talent, we must take advantage of any and all referrals that we can access. The following saying generally holds true, good people know good people. These referrals may come from vendors, clients, employees etc., so it is very important to share any job openings with all of these potential sources.

Knowing what is coming down the pipeline is half the battle. Being well prepared and better equipped to combat these issues will help to ensure that your company can make the best of any labor shortages you may experience in the coming years.

Demand for Experienced Skilled Trades Talent Grows /blog/demand-for-experienced-skilled-trades-talent-grows/ /blog/demand-for-experienced-skilled-trades-talent-grows/#respond Wed, 19 Jul 2017 12:20:08 +0000 /blog/?p=4014 Continue reading ]]> The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the construction industry will face a shortage of 1.6 million workers by 2022. So how did an industry that let go more than 2 million workers during the recession, well more than any other industry, end up in the talent struggle?

Image of construction worker on construction site, working on site where skyscraper is being built. Manual worker has protective helmet and protective uniform. Image taken with Nikon D800 and professional Nikon lens, developed from RAW in highest resolution. Location: Novi Sad, Serbia, Europe

Currently, there is only one tradesman entering the workforce for every 5 that retire. With 73% of construction firms planning to expand their headcount throughout 2017, this leaves the industry in a continued shortage for qualified talent. The Associated General Contractors of America reported that construction firms added employees over the past year at nearly double the rate of the overall economy. In June alone, the industry added 16,000 jobs across the country.

The shortage of talent comes from a number of factors including:

  • Fewer apprenticeship programs
  • Fewer trade/vocational programs
  • A much faster rate of talent leaving the industry than joining it
  • The number of tradesmen who left the industry during the recession and sought other professions
  • Growing number of construction projects across the nation

The talent shortage has caused contractors to delay job completions, pay costly overtime, hire under-skilled staff and offer per diem options to attract non-local workers to their projects.

Hiring inexperienced workers can result in costly mistakes, injuries and delays to schedules. Trillium Construction Services specializes in recruiting skilled trades and construction management talent for long term and short term hiring needs across the country. With more than 30 years of experience, Trillium is ranked the 24th Largest Industrial Staffing Firm in the nation, hiring more than 40,000 employees each year in all 50 states. Whether your need for talent ranges from Project Management through Journeyman or Apprentice level tradesmen, Trillium can provide you with the talent needed to meet project deadlines and expectations. How to Land The Job! Trillium Staff Speaks Out! /blog/how-to-land-the-job-trillium-staff-speaks-out/ Thu, 20 Nov 2014 21:05:31 +0000 /blog/?p=2313 Continue reading ]]> Have you ever wondered what others did to set themselves apart? Are you missing out on great opportunities that you feel you are qualified for? Here are some great tips directly from our staff to help you land the job!

Hired - Man in Word“Be honest in the application process, Interview the interviewer…ask questions. Share your interests and goals with your interview/prospective employer. Follow up after interviews….shows initiative, sets you apart from others that do not”

– Jeff W. , Branch Manager, Trillium Construction

“Do your homework!  There is so much information available at your fingertips.  Research the company you are interviewing with.  There is no excuse for not being informed.  Have questions prepared about the company and/or the position.”

-Anne M. , Regional Vice President, Trillium Staffing

“No matter how disenfranchised you may be with your current employer and/or situation it is important to accentuate the positive experiences you have had. Employers are just as interested in the “soft skills and attributes” you will bring to the position as they are the “hard skills” and education you possess. A positive attitude and bright outlook can do wonders in an interview to push you to the top!”

-Jennifer M. , Recruiting Manager, Trillium Staffing

“Sell yourself!”

-Becki O. , Branch Manager, Trillium Staffing

“If you do not understand a question during the interview, ask for clarification.  It is acceptable to ask the interviewer to rephrase the question if you are unsure of the meaning.   Take your time when answering tough questions.”

-Anne M. , Regional Vice President, Trillium Staffing

“When the job posting asks for a resume, please send one!”

-Stu C. , Project Manager, Trillium Construction

“Work with your recruiter understanding that they are your advocate. Be honest and straight forward about what exactly you are seeking in a new opportunity and what your expectations are in working with them. When all the cards are on the table you won’t have any surprises in the end!”

– Jennifer M. , Recruiting Manager, Trillium Staffing

“Be prepared to answer questions about your strengths. Focus on the attributes that set you apart from the crowd – such as ‘I’m excellent at time management;’ or, ‘I have a high sense of urgency when working on a deadline.’  Avoid generic statements that are often overused in interviews such as, ‘I’m a people-person.’ ”

-Jeannie B. , Regional Vice President, Trillium Staffing

“Your resume is the first impression of you and will determine whether you ever get the opportunity to sell yourself in person during an interview.  Be sure to proofread your resume carefully and do not depend on the spell check function.  Typos very well may prevent you from ever getting an interview for the perfect job.”

– Anne M. , Regional Vice President, Trillium Staffing

Are Your Industrial Cleaning Projects Facing Setbacks? /blog/are-your-industrial-cleaning-projects-facing-setbacks/ Fri, 19 Sep 2014 20:41:58 +0000 /blog/?p=2130 Continue reading ]]> Are your industrial cleaning projects facing set backs on budget, deadlines, and efficiency? The cause may be your manpower. Hiring unqualified and undependable staff for even entry level positions such as Hydro Blasters, Industrial Laborers, Industrial Cleaners, and Vac Truck Operators can have a detrimental effect on your bottom line and your rapport with clients.

Construction

While some of the duties required for these roles are entry level, the training and qualifying of candidates for these roles is more in depth than many non-specialized staffing agencies are familiar with. Hiring staff that hold OSHA 40, Hazwoper, Respirator Fit, and safety certifications requires more time and qualifying than traditional general laborers.

Your clients expect you to uphold rigorous outage schedules with thorough results; requiring qualified and experienced industrial labor. Partnering with an experienced industrial staffing agency, can provide you with qualified staff, training, and even transporting of candidates to larger job sites.
