Warm Weather is Finally Here! What to Wear to Work? /blog/warm-weather-is-finally-here-what-to-wear-to-work/ /blog/warm-weather-is-finally-here-what-to-wear-to-work/#respond Mon, 14 May 2018 19:36:38 +0000 /blog/?p=4995 Continue reading ]]> Days are getting longer and the weather is finally starting to feel like Spring in many parts of the country. For many of us, this means wearing sandals, shorts, sun dresses and what could be considered just all around more comfortable attire both at home and at work. However, there are important factors to keep in mind when getting back in the warm weather groove, especially when it comes to the workplace.

Large Group of People Small

Typically, individual employers develop a workplace dress code specific to their working environment and industry. For instance, for many manufacturing positions, long pants and steel toe shoes are required year round due to the nature of work being performed. In other workplace environments, the dress code may be more casual, allowing employees to wear jeans and tennis shoes while on the job.

As an employer, it is important to update and remind employees of what the dress code is throughout the year, especially in areas where the climate changes from season to season. The more communication provided to employees, the less confusion there will be on both sides involved.

As an employee, always read and understand your employer’s specific dress code. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to the Human Resources department who can assist in clarifying anything that may be confusing or unclear. The more you know regarding what is and is not appropriate for your specific working environment, the less headaches later. While wearing flip flops, shorts and other warm weather gear is hard to resist this time of year, it is important to be knowledgeable about your employer’s dress code as it laid out in the employee handbook.

The Trillium brand of companies is privately owned by René Poch and provides more than 30 years of industry leading recruitment and staffing services through its divisions including: Trillium Staffing, Trillium Construction Services, Trillium Driver Solutions, Trillium Marine, Trillium Technical, Trillium Environmental, and Trillium Techs. With approximately 90 offices nationwide and nearly 400 internal recruitment professionals, the Trillium brand is proud to be recognized by Staffing Industry Analysts as a Top 25 Largest Industrial Staffing Firm in the U.S., a Top 100 Largest Staffing Firm in the U.S., a Top 100 Fastest Growing Staffing Firm in the U.S., and a 2015 winner of National Best and Brightest Companies to Work For. 2018 Talent Shortages: What To Expect and What To Do! /blog/2018-talent-shortages-what-to-expect-and-what-to-do/ /blog/2018-talent-shortages-what-to-expect-and-what-to-do/#respond Tue, 10 Apr 2018 18:55:10 +0000 /blog/?p=4761 Continue reading ]]> As unemployment continues to drop and more in the baby boomer generation are retiring, companies nationwide in a wide variety of industries are beginning to feel the sting of talent shortages. With this in mind, who might get hit the hardest this year and what can be done about it?

Interview Large

According to Fast Company Article, the following industries/sectors are at the highest risk for experiencing talent shortages between now and 2025.

  • Skilled trades, including Electricians, Machinists and Welders
  • Healthcare, including Occupational and Physical Therapy Aides
  • Manufacturing, including Production Workers and Engineers
  • Sales, including professionals with a solid combination of social and cognitive skills
  • Math-related fields, including Actuaries and Statisticians

So, we know what is coming but what can we do to prepare for it? Here are a few steps your organization can take to try and overcome talent shortages either currently or in the future.

  • Forecast any long-term hiring needs. A talent shortage results in less available workers which equals a greater time to fill and find qualified applicants. The key is to be prepared! Instead of waiting until you have the need, forecast what your need may be based on historical data and start sourcing the talent now!
  • Recruit passive talent. The idea behind a talent shortage is that the majority of potential hires are already working elsewhere, but that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t be persuaded to jump ship. In order to convince a passive candidate to leave a current position for a new one, we must do a better job of selling our jobs. Recruiters now must also be sales people for each of their positions in order to get talent in the door. Whether this means emphasizing company culture, pay, hours, benefits, etc., we must give potential employees a reason to want to leave a current position.
    • Take advantage of referrals. When recruiting passive talent, we must take advantage of any and all referrals that we can access. The following saying generally holds true, good people know good people. These referrals may come from vendors, clients, employees etc., so it is very important to share any job openings with all of these potential sources.

Knowing what is coming down the pipeline is half the battle. Being well prepared and better equipped to combat these issues will help to ensure that your company can make the best of any labor shortages you may experience in the coming years.

What You Need to Know About Attracting Top Performers /blog/what-you-need-to-know-about-attracting-top-performers/ /blog/what-you-need-to-know-about-attracting-top-performers/#respond Fri, 19 Jan 2018 17:57:33 +0000 /blog/?p=3753 Continue reading ]]> Locating talent is hard, locating top performers is down right difficult. Top performers often have a different mindset which helps them to lead the pack in the workplace and can make attracting and maintaining them all the more difficult.

Good - Better - Best. On the black bacground

A 2012 report by Personnel Psychology, found that 26% of output in the workplace derives from the top 5%, putting top performers producing as much as 400% more than the average worker. Top performers thrive in a challenging and competitive environment. Failure to produce that type of opportunity can quickly lead to turnover. Here’s what you need to know:

  • 92% of top performers say they search for job opportunities at least a few times a year.
  • 77% of top performers look at new jobs monthly.
  • Top performers are actually less likely than other candidates to be attracted away for better compensation or benefits.
  • Top performers prefer to find new opportunities themselves rather than be recruited into them.

Research shows that most top performers are less likely to post a resume online but are more likely to apply online for an opportunity. Top performers are most attracted to new opportunities based upon company culture, challenging or exciting projects, company reputation, and the new team. In order to locate top performers, you’ll need to rely heavily on strong job postings that are rich in SEO content; that really describe your company culture and the challenges that your role could offer. Your careers page should clearly define the atmosphere, company culture, team dynamics and your growth and expansion plans for the future. Chances are, top performers will have had a make it or break it decision before they ever speak with your recruitment team.

It likely is. The influenza outbreak that has left millions of people across the nation ill, is the most widespread outbreak since public health authorities started tracking this information more than a decade ago.

The Center for Disease Control is reporting infections caused by H1N1 strain with a larger number of infections of the H3N2 strain being predominate this time around. The H3N2 strain is best known for it’s resistance to vaccinations that are typically most effective against other flu strains. The H3N2 strain is also known to cause more severe symptoms than more common flu strains.

In addition to the severity of this influenza outbreak, the geographical reach is far more widespread than most flu seasons. Nearly all fifty states are experiencing widespread infections according to the CDC.

Flu

For employers, this widespread outbreak is having a significant impact on business and the bottom line.
